Dilated Cardiomyopathy Weakens the Heart Muscles and Enlarges Them Making the Heart Unable to Pump out Adequate Blood for the Body

 Dilated cardiomyopathy is an abnormal condition in which the upper portion of the heart becomes enlarged and weak. Since the heart is no longer delivering sufficient blood to the various parts of the body, it is unable to pump the amount of blood it needs. This results in the pooling of fluids (glucose) in the legs. This condition tends to progress slowly over time, causing a feeling of discomfort in the lower extremities. Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most frequent type, but it can also be caused by other underlying conditions. The common symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy include fatigue, leg pain, nausea, and palpitations.

 

Dilated cardiomyopathy generally occurs in people who have had cardiac surgery or young individuals with congenital heart defects. People with dilated cardiomyopathy may include women with menopause. Symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy may include left ventricular hypertrophy, right ventricular hypertrophy, coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease, and high blood pressure. Treatment usually includes treatment for high blood pressure, but the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy depends on the cause. Medications such as beta-blockers are used.

Since dilated cardiomyopathy can be caused by any number of underlying illnesses, the symptoms need to be looked at carefully to determine the exact cause. Some causes are rather obvious. These include congenital heart disease and sudden death due to heart failure. Other causes can be less obvious. For example, if someone develops a dilated cardiomyopathy after having surgery for severe lung damage, the symptoms are very similar to those of acute respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).

The most common form of dilated cardiomyopathy is dilated cardiosclerosis, which is also known as Pericardial Dilatation. This condition occurs when the muscle fibers contract abnormally and enlarges within the heart chamber. It results in enlargement of the ventricular zone, heart chamber's pumping capacity, and the amount of pumping efficiency. Dilated cardiosclerosis is one of the most commonly occurring conditions in the field of cardiology.
