Sheath material is a gaining popularity as a protective materials due to its excellent temperature strength, corrosion resistance properties

The term "sheath" is derived from a Latin word meaning "cover". In other words, it is an outer covering used for protection. In this case, protection is necessary against exposure to the elements as well as from accidental or intentional damage.

One of the advantages is that this material is generally stronger than comparable cloth or paper bags. It is also an attractive item that will enhance the appearance of any wardrobe there are various materials that can be used as a sheath material. Leather is one of the emerging materials. If properly cared for, sheaths made from leather can provide many years of use and enjoyment. The two primary types of leather sheath materials are leather and nylon. While leather is the most popular, nylon is growing in popularity. Both are relatively durable and resistant to corrosion but are somewhat heavier than leather. Nylon is often preferred over leather due to its economic nature. A nylon sheath costs about half the price of a comparable leather sheath.

The third most popular type of material is a polymer. It is similar to the appearance of rubber and has the same properties, including the ability to resist moisture. Some polymer materials may be coated with a moisture-resistance mechanism to increase this resistance, but it is not universal. The polymer is typically coated with an anti-corrosion agent to provide greater protection against moisture, but these coatings are not as universal as leather and nylon sheaths and should only be used where anti-corrosion is not a concern.

Steel is the most universal sheath material and the most common. It is resistant to abrasion, but not enough to overcome the inherent weaknesses of stainless steel.
