It is typically handcrafted by master artisan baker's from small batches of seasonal ingredients, using only natural, unprocessed ingredients. It is usually served chilled with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on a fresh banana crisp cake. Artisanal ice creams are usually less expensive than commercial ones because they are made from a seasonal farm, using only fresh local ingredients, and not frozen. The flavors can range from mild to strong, depending on the region where the products are produced, but they are always homemade and not commercialized.
